I am a designer and illustrator with 20 years experience in the home furnishings and greetings card industries. I specialise in surface pattern, illustration and paper engineering.
Before graduating with a BA(Hons) degree in Printed Textiles at The Nottingham Trent University I won a number of design awards including the RSA Student Design Award for Printed Textiles, The RSA Student Design Travel Report Award and a Commendation from The Bradford Textile Society. My work has been exhibited around the UK and at the Design Museum in London.
Since my graduation I have worked across various design fields covering home furnishings, wallpapers and accessories, fashion fabrics, greetings cards, stationery, ceramics, jewellery design and packaging. I thoroughly enjoy working in different disciplines and with different production teams.
During my career I have worked as an ‘in house’ senior designer, product development manager, account manager and as a freelancer.
Working ‘in house’ gave me valuable experience in production processes, material properties, costings and product development as well as working with customers to achieve their briefs.
My skills are versatile and I use a wide range of media and techniques including collage, cut paper, laser designs, pastels, watercolours, acrylics, pencil, pen and ink and embroidery. My training in textiles also means that I can design in repeat.
I am comfortable working on flat work and in three dimensions (paper engineering). I love the challenge of developing a flat piece of paper into an interesting format that people would want to display. Sometimes this involves using lighting or handmade attachments to add an extra ‘wow’ factor.
I can work to an individual brief or plan a range from initial concept through to finished artwork. Some samples of my work can be found here.
Please contact me to discuss your next design project. I love a challenge!
